It's always frustrating going for a stroll in the woods and being unable to translate the names of a particular tree into French. Just to get you started, here are a few important words in French concerning trees:

 Wood = Le Bois             Branch = La Branche

Leaf = La feuille         Root = La racine

Woods = Les Bois      Forest = La Forêt

Meadow = Le Pré

 

In Latin, silva means 'Woods or Forest'

In the centre of France, in the 'département de l'Allier', there is a beautiful Oak Forest called La Forêt de Tronçais. It's the largest Oak Forest in Western Europe and covers 10,000 hectares. It is a magical place and well worth the visit.
