Similar Names In Different Languages
It’s interesting to note that certain names of flowers are very close in several languages.
Take the Dandelion or le Pissenlit or la Dent-du-lion in French:
La Dent-du-lion literally means ‘The Tooth Of The Lion’, which is the exact translation used in German for exactly the same flower:
Der Löwenzahn
der Löwe = Lion Die Löwen = Lions
Tooth = der Zahn Teeth = die Zähne
Interesting that different nations adapted the word to their language
Le Pissenlit in French, is roughly translated as ‘The Wee-The-Bed”
Did you know that Horticulture is derived from the Latin words 'Hortus' for 'garden' and 'colere' meaning 'to cultivate'
